Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One 50th anniversary reissue.
So, many years ago, well to be precise 50 years ago, a band called The Kinks released an album that introduced us to a girl (Sort of) called Lola from the album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. This wasn’t the bands first album it was actually the 8th studio album originally released in 1970.
Fast forward to 2020 and the Kinks bring us a deluxe set of Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One remastered from the original HD master tapes. The vinyl release includes a 60 page hardback book, demos and conversations with Ray and Dave.
Back in 1970 the single Lola reached number two in the UK Charts. Ray Davis said the inspiration for the song came from a night in Paris. Kinks manager Robert Wace spent the night with a cross dresser. Ray said “In his apartment, Robert had been dancing with this black woman, and he said, ‘I’m really onto a thing here.’ And it was okay until we left at six in the morning and then I said, ‘Have you seen the stubble?’ He said ‘Yeah’, but he was too pissed to care, I think”
To mark the occasion The Kinks have released a new video for Lola.
